Position: US-TX-Irving, Systems Test/Product Development Engineer

Knowledge/Skill Requirement:
  • Associate's degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering, a related discipline or the equivalent, plus a minimum of one-year experience in Telecom Product Development and support environment.
  • A broad knowledge of hardware/software test methodologies and processes.
  • A broad knowledge of Key/terminal system/PBX features and operation.
  • A working knowledge of data networking. Knowledge of VPN, ADSL and other access technologies a plus.
  • General knowledge of US telecommunication market, Bellcore, FCC, UL, ISDN,T1 requirements.
  • Must also possess strong communications, writing and presentation skills.

Job Summary: Performs system and feature testing of advance Key Telephone Systems for debugging proposes and correct operation. Prepares and reviews technical systems manuals and documents. Assists technical support group to resolve customer equipment problems. Simulates/resolves product problems using test and laboratory equipment.

Job Duties:
  • Performs/supports testing of Key Telephone System features, including advanced voice/data technology applications such as VoIP, VoDSL, ISDN, etc.
  • Prepares comprehensive system test plans, test procedures and test reports.
  • Performs/supports testing of hardware platforms to various North American regulatory standards, and other industry standards in telecommunication.
  • Travels to customer sites to test/debug installed hardware, as directed. Contacts management/staff from other NEC units as required, to obtain information/assistance required to resolve problems.
  • Prepares a variety of procedurally based documentation during the product development process.
  • Keeps abreast of technological developments by attending courses/seminars, participating in professional organizations, reviewing a variety of industry/technical publications etc.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
